In light of the recent shooting spree in my area, I found my morning walk to be rather unsettling.

Every morning I take Taylor out for a walk. This is typically done around 6:00 in the morning, which is usually a quiet, dimly lit time before the sun rises and people start leaving home for work. This week’s walks have been a little edgy to say the least, since my neighborhood has its share of bordering trees and dark areas where a man could easily hide with a rifle. So this morning I was walking down a familiar path when Taylor started pulling to the right. I looked in the direction she was interested….and saw a person curled up on a neighbor’s patio, hopefully asleep. This did not sit well with me. Sure, there must be homeless people in my area, but I’ve never seen one outside of the big city or large intersections. And the fact that he or she was just lying there, hopefully asleep but quite still, really didn’t mix well with my images of shooters hiding in the woods. I cut my walk short and called the police. When they arrived, I pointed them towards the house and went back inside. They didn’t hang around very long so I assume Mr. Sleepy was, in fact, just sleeping, and that the police sent him on his way.

I’m sure it’s nothing, and that some poor dude was just trying to get out of the drizzling rain for a few hours. Nonetheless, it was creepy, and not in the fun horror movie way.
