My, how time flies. All of my grades are in; I got an A- in intro bio, and As in everything else. That puts my cumulative post-bac GPA at 3.95. There’s no reason for me to be upset with that, and I suppose I’m not; still, I know I could have done better in bio. I got the mean grade on the first midterm, which put me in catch-up mode for the rest of the semester. Two solid As in the following midterms meant that an A was a possibility, depending on my final exam score…so I guess I missed a few too many points there. It’s frustrating to think that a few more hours of preparation might have given me that A, but the reality is that I was on the defensive from the get-go. I was comfortably ahead of the curve in everything else, which put me in a much better situation leading into those finals.

Oh, well. Medical school admissions are extremely competitive and being a nontraditional student doesn’t make it easier. I need every fraction of a point I can get, especially in light of my undergrad GPA, but there’s nothing I can do about my fall grades now; the only solution is to keep plugging away in the spring. Speaking of the spring, I’m going to be pretty busy. My classes will be at least as difficult, the MCAT is coming in April, and I want to volunteer some time in a lab on campus. I’d better make the most of my vacation; I’m sure there will be precious little time for relaxing once I head back to school in January.
